WDC Shorewatch Volunteer Agreement and Account Request Form

Thank you for attending a Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) Shorewatch training session. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the volunteer handbook (policies), privacy policy, and Shorewatch risk assessments which can be found in our Shorewatch app help pages.

Please complete the below form to confirm that you have completed the training and to request a user account for our Shorewatch database and app portal. You will receive an email once this request is processed by the Shorewatch team.

The Shorewatch Coordinator will contact also you via email for the following reasons: Shorewatch newsletter, Shorewatch events, updates to Shorewatch, and relevant information impacting whales and dolphins in Scotland. You can remove yourself from these emails at any point.

Any information provided by you will remain confidential held only by WDC and by a local Shorewatch coordinator (if applicable). If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the team shorewatch@whales.org.

A valid e-mail address. All e-mails from the system will be sent to this address. The e-mail address is not made public and will only be used if you wish to receive a new password, and to receive core Shorewatch information by e-mail. A unique email address is required for each Shorewatch account. Please let us know if you share an email address with another Shorewatcher and struggle to request individual accounts.

I understand that any data and media I collect and contribute will become a permanent part of the wider Shorewatch dataset. The Shorewatch dataset may be used by WDC or approved 3rd parties for research purposes, publications, reports, management, monitoring, outreach, education, social media, and community interest. Such uses will ensure that personal data is processed securely, potentially by using pseudonymisation and encryption to enable data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

I confirm that the health and safety risks associated with conducting a Shorewatch were discussed with me; that control measures for these risks were made clear; that I have received training to perform a Shorewatch; and that I am of sufficient physical health to conduct these activities safely.
